The three social functions of note during the school year
were the Junior prom, the Sophomore party and the Freshman
"glee." There were few social events other than the three given
by the trio of classes at the Lincoln High.
The Lincoln Seniors joined with the Washington '08 class
in helping make the Senior ball the big thing of the year, and
although the Athletic Association fully intended to give a dance,
the proposed hop never came off, partly because of financial
reasons, and because the members were generally too busy getting Lincoln athletics in smooth running order to plan for an
association dance.
The Roysters, a club of High School students, gave a delightful
dance on the evening of April 17 at the University boathouse, and everybody who attended had a good time until the
"wee" hours.
The Junior prom, given the night of December 7, was a
dance of which the class may well be proud. This was the first
annual junior prom, and the first social event of the year to be
given by Lincoln students. Christensen's Broadway Hall, in
which the prom was held, was artistically decorated with pennants, palms and yellow chrysanthemums, while cozy corners
were furnished with a wealth of college pillows. This made a
pleasing setting for the pretty girls and their escorts, of whom
there were more than three hundred.
The patronesses for the affair were: Mrs. J. E. McKown,
Mrs. T. M. Jones, Mrs. William F. Geiger, Miss Sterling and
Mrs. C. F. Van Hook.
The committee who made the prom a success were William
Titus, chairman; Warren Hinton, Elverta Jones, Beatrice Austin, Genevieve Kingston.
The Sophomore party, held Saturday evening, February 8.
was a huge success. The entertainment started with vocal solos
and recitations in the assembly. Refreshments were served in
the lunch room, and then everybody repaired to the gymnasium,
where the students and their guests marched and danced to the
lively strains of the High School orchestra. All who attended
will cherish the memories of an excellent time at the Soph.
party.
The third and last social event given by the students of the
Lincoln High School, the Freshman "glee," took place on the
afternoon and evening of March 21.
The event was a great success in every particular, and few
entering classes in Seattle High School history have attempted
such a big undertaking with such subsequent good results. The
events of the day opened with a musical program in the assembly.
The square dances and grand marches then ensued. The
gym was then abandoned for the lunch room, where all the
guests enjoyed a four-course menu. Then followed the feature
of the day, the innovation of giving toasts and drinking health.
Prominent members of the Lincoln and Washington High
Schools took part, namely: Principal McKown, Coach Allen,
Ben Ohnick, Fred Sparger, Leslie Palmer, Leo Baisden, Jesse
Bowles, Frank Foisie, Chas. Hutchins, Claude Sanders, Buelah
Blood, Ralph Casey, Clarence Bryant and Dillis Knapp. Roy
Casey, President of the class, acted as toastmaster.
