The basketball season of the Lincoln High School was brought
to a successful close Monday, April 6th, when the Lincoln five
defeated the West Seattle High School by an overwhelming
score. The boys were hampered at the beginning of the season
on account of not having a place to practice, as the gymnasium
was not equipped until a month after the season had started.
Some thirty or more men turned out for basketball and
through Coach Allen's novel plan of having class games, much
good material was developed, and it is hoped the league will
be continued next season.
When Coach Allen first took the team in hand he had a
bunch of green men from which to make a team, and in the
first few games which the five played, team work was noticeably
lacking. In the first four or five games that were played no
one knew until the day of the game who would play, as all the
men were evenly matched, and Coach Allen wished to try them
all. Throughout the season no two forwards were used. Pike
and Thompson started in these positions, but soon gave way to
Worl, Bryant and Bagley. The season ended with Ohnick and
Standridge in the forward positions. These three were all stars.
Sparger and Lowman held their positions at guard throughout, and this steady pair will surely be in the backfield next year.
Lowman, for a new man, was wonderfully clever and steady, as
was Fred Sparger.
