1908 Baseball

Probably there is no game known to the true native-born American that is more popular, more scientific, more healthful, more exciting and more exclusively American than is the national game of baseball. It is true, almost without exception, that every boy who is born in the United States and who is sent to the public schools for his early education becomes acquainted with and learns to play our national game. and it cannot be denied that baseball is an important factor in the building up of the American youth, both mentally and morally, as well as physically.

Under the existing conditions our coach, Mr. Allen, has built up an exceptionally strong team this year—one that would do credit to any high school in our country. Considering the fact that we are a new school; that the players are mostly all new to one another; that we have had but little chance to develop team work, it must be acknowl- edged that the Lincoln team has done remarkably well against such teams as the Washington High School and Hill's Academy, both of whom have played together for three and four years or more.
