2011 Scholarship Winners

Scholarship Winner Lilia Bannister, granddaughter of Robert Edwin Banister, class of 1942. Lilia is graduating from Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, Washington. During her high school years she participated in National Honor Society, swim team co-captain, varsity softball and jazz band. Lilia has been rowing on the Greenlake crew and participated in the volunteer program at the Seattle Aquarium. She will be entering the University of Washington-Seattle majoring in Fisheries with a minor in environmental studies. Her dream is to become a marine scientist.
Scholarship Winner Sean Berg, grandson of Dorothy (Fairchild) Lindstrom, class of 1954. Sean will be graduating from Burnett High School, Burnett Texas. He was born in Snohomish and moved to Texas in 4th grade. He founded the Ultimate Frisbee team at the high school. In the fall Sean will attend Texas Tech majoring in physical therapy.
Scholarship Winner Austin Brown, great-grandson of Vanessa Harrold Johnson, class of 1939. Austin attended North Thurston High School and was enrolled in the Running Start Program. He will be graduating from high school as well as community college with an AA degree. Austin is looking forward to studying for an advanced degree in the field of engineering while continuing his volunteer work with the Kiwanis.
Scholarship Winner Melissa (Missy) Brown, granddaughter of Shirley Christophersen, class of 1957. Missy will be graduating from Lakes High School in Lakewood, Washington. While attending Lakes she was involved with gymnastics, cheer squad and National Honor Society. Through her church she has been on mission trips and worked in the soup kitchen. She will be attending Washington State University in the fall, majoring in nursing with a minor in athletic training.
Scholarship Winner Bailey N. Carr, granddaughter on Myron (Mike) Carr, class of 1954 (midterm). Bailey will be graduating from Roosevelt High School, Seattle, Washington. While enrolled at Roosevelt she worked on the newspaper, was involved in the social justice program and the school spirit group. She has also been a camp counselor at the Museum of Flight. She will be attending the University of Washington-Seattle. She would like to become a doctor and work for Doctors Without Borders.
Scholarship Winner Peter Clinkenbeard, son of Ronald Clinkenbeard, class of 1974. Peter is a graduate of Roosevelt High School class of 2011. While attending high school he was active in track, football, student government and also was President of the Spirit Club. Peter works at Dick's Drive-In and has been volunteering at The Bread of Life kitchen. He will be attending the University of Washington-Seattle studying International Relations. He hopes to volunteer for the Peace Corps after graduation.
Scholarship Winner David W. Cropp, grandson of Beverly Sutherland, class of 1954. David will be graduating from Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He was on the wrestling team all four years and was varsity captain for one year. David is involved in the Boy Scouts of America and has achieved his Life rank. He is also active in his church youth group. He will be attending UCLA in the fall majoring in mechanical engineering.
Scholarship Winner David Dekoekkoek, grandson of Jay Anema, class of 1950. He will be graduating from Shoreline Christian High School. While attending school he participated in basketball, soccer and Lacrosse. He will be attending Western Washington University. He is planning on majoring in computer science with a possible minor in Spanish.
Scholarship Winner Andrew Dore, grandson of Nancy Turnquist Sandbloom, class of 1949. Andrew will be graduating from Central Kitsap High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society for 5 years. In addition, he has earned an academic letter for the last 3 years and been a member of International Key Club. Andrew has volunteered as an umpire of peewee baseball and the Special Olympics. He has been given special direct admission into the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington-Seattle in the fall.
Scholarship Winner Bethany Gehrke, granddaughter of Karen (Gordon) Bryce Lincoln, class of 1951. She will be graduating from Shorewood High School, Shoreline, Washington. While attending high school she participated on the varsity swim team, was a member of the National Honor Society, DECCA, and S.E.R.V.E.. In the community she has been a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house. She will be attending Seattle University in the fall, majoring in nursing with an emphasis on neonatology.
Scholarship Winner Jared Goddard's Lynx family member is his grandmother Gail Noblett Goddard, class of 1958. He will be graduating from Wilsonville High School, Wilsonville, Oregon. He will be attending the University of Oregon in Eugene. He hopes to study philosophy, political science and Japanese.
Scholarship Winner Kyle Harris, grandson of Carol Anne Uhrich, class of 1957. He will be graduating from Auburn Mountain View High School where he was a member of the marching band and pep band, as well as the math, calculus and robotics clubs. He will be attending George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon and intends on pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.
Scholarship Winner Melinda Haun, granddaughter of Viola Washburn Allen, class of 1949. She will be graduating from Villa Park High School in California. Growing up she has been active in Girl Scouts earning the Bronze and Silver Awards for community service. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and in addition has earned the AP Scholar designation. She will be attending Biola University in La Mirada, California.
Scholarship Winner Evan Hayton's Lynx connection is his grandfather from the class of 1951. Evan will be a member of Inglemoor's class of 2011. He participated on the golf team his last two years of school. Evan has been involved in a mentor/tutor program in the elementary school working with a special needs student. Community service has been a big part of his life. He does stained glass work and has a studio in his home which he uses often. He will be entering Portland State University in the fall, majoring in Criminal Justice.
Scholarship Winner Lindsey Holdren, granddaughter of Myrtis Rehbein, class of 1953. Lindsey is graduating from Central Kitsap High School where she was active in a myriad of activities, Key Club, Honor Society, Distinguished Readers and senior mural project. She was also on the swim, soccer and tennis teams. She will be attending Whitman College in the fall where she is intent on exploring her interest in the arts and science.
Scholarship Winner Amanda Kenny, daughter of Rebecca Anderson Kenny, class of 1970. Amanda will be graduating from Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, California. She played JV soccer and basketball for 2 years. She is very involved in her youth group at church and enjoys volunteering at a low-income complex conducting a Christian program for the children. She will be entering Seattle Pacific University in the fall.
Scholarship Winner Thomas Longbaugh, son of Kerstin T. Schurr, class of 1976. He will be graduating from Garfield High School. Thomas achieved Magna Cum Laude on the national Latin exam. He has played in the nationally recognized jazz band throughout his high school career. He loves to ski and has trained to be an assistant for the Mohan Ski School. He will be attending New York University in the fall.
Scholarship Winner Allyson Manwaring, granddaughter of Richard Manwaring, class of 1967. Allyson will be graduating from Great Oak High School in Temecula, California. She has been heavily involved in the drama department and has either acted in or helped with every school production. She volunteers at the elementary school as part of her Development of Child Physiology class. She will be attending California State University-East Bay.
Scholarship Winner Kari Nelson, granddaughter of Douglas Nelson, class of 1954. Kari will be graduating from Edmonds-Woodway High School, where she was very involved in Key Club which does volunteering around the community. She played on the JV soccer team and learned the value of team play, hard work and a healthy lifestyle. She plans to attend the University of Arizona in the fall in hopes of becoming a Certified Dietician. Upon graduation she would ultimately like to help in changing lives for the better through nutrition.
Scholarship Winner Sarah Elisabeth Rae, granddaughter of Hazel Meyer Edholm, class of 1942. Sarah will be graduating from Ridgefield High School, Ridgefield, Washington. While in school she was active in the Make A Wish Foundation and Leo's Club which participates in community activities. She will be attending Washington State University in the fall, majoring in elementary education with a minor in child development.
Scholarship Winner Makoa Rosa comes from a long line of Lincoln grads dating back to 1913. He is the grandson of Robin Graeme Buchan, class of 1953. He will be graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Federal Way, Washington. While attending school he has played varsity tennis for 4 years and varsity basketball senior year. He participated on the math team that won state and placed 4th in the nation. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. Makoa has volunteered in many youth sports and academic programs. He will be attending the University of Hawaii-Hilo where he plans to become a marine biologist.
Scholarship Winner Michelle Marie Ruiz, granddaughter of Elmer Snyder Parks, class of 1950. She will be graduating from Cascade High School in Everett. While in school she has been a member of the National Honor Society and the cheer squad. In her community she has participated in Relay for Life, food drives and campus clean-up. She will be attending the University of Washington-Seattle, majoring in physical therapy.
Scholarship Winner Katie Stick's family Lynx connection is her grandfather Philip Schwendeman, class of 1933. Katie will be graduating from Squalicum High School in Bellingham. While attending high school she has been active in varsity soccer and track. She has also been co-president of the environmental club. Katie has served her community in the following: special education tutor, Rotary Club and Project Homeless Connect. In her spare time she likes to travel, swim, knit, hike and garden. She will be attending Seattle University in the fall hoping to study environmental science with a focus on drinking water quality.
Scholarship Winner Kaitlin Swartz, granddaughter of Jean Johnson, class of 1948. She will be graduating from Edmonds-Woodway High School. During her years at E-W she played 4 years of soccer, and was a member of the National Honor Society. In the community she has provided childcare for immigrant families who are enrolled in ESL classes. Kaitlin will be entering the pre-medicine program at the University of Washington-Seattle; upon graduation she would like to work for Doctors Without Borders.
Scholarship Winner Charles Van Fleet, grandson of Lucy Kimpton, class of 1940. Charles will be graduating from Morristown High School, Morristown, New Jersey. During his high school years he has been involved in Latin Club, Math Club, chess team and trans-options hydrogen fuel cell model car challenge team. He has been very active in Boy Scout Explorer Post 253-Aviation. In addition, he serves as an usher at church. Charles is headed to Georgia Tech majoring in descrete mathematics.
Scholarship Winner Tyler Gregg, grandson of Coryell Bailey, class of 1940. Tyler will be graduating from Lakeside School, Seattle. During high school he was involved in baseball, tennis, and was captain of the basketball team. He also was a volunteer counselor at camps for kids. His hobbies are golf, swimming, and skiing. Tyler will be attending University of Portland in the business administration program. He plans to get his MBA and work within the business section of the sports industry.
