2012 Scholarship Winners

Scholarship Winner Emily Bainbridge, is the granddaughter of Marion Campbell, class of 1949. Emily Graduated from Meadowvale High school, Lynnwood, WA. Emily volunteered at Clothes for Kids, as well the Canyon Hill Community Church Food bank. She also works in the summer as a Day Camp Assistant for the City of Edmonds recreation dept. She enjoys Basketball and Visual Arts, and received an honorable mention in the 2012 Scholastic Art show. Emily is planning to get her associates degree Edmonds Community College, then transfer to a 4-year institution to pursue a degree in psychology for a future career in drug abuse counseling.
Scholarship Winner Richard Beker, is the grandson of Richard Diven, class of 1957. Richard graduated from Sitka High school, Sitka, AK. Richard volunteered for the National Honors society, as well as taking part in a Community Youth Orchestra. His school activities include Parliamentarian at Student council, National Honor Society, High School Pep Band, and Varsity Swimming. He enjoys writing, drawing, Computer Aided Drafting, Guitar, Piano, and philosophy. Richard is planning to get his Bachelors in Biochemistry or Biophysics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and is interested in receiving a Masters Degree with a focus on the Medical Profession..
Scholarship Winner Brian Cropp, is the son of Peter Michael Cropp, class of 1975. Brian graduated from Governor John R. Rodgers High school. Brian volunteered at with National Leadership Youth Training, the Puyallup fair, Meeker Days, and the Boy Scouts as an Eagle Scout. At school he was a part of Varsity Water Polo, Varsity Swim Team, Ram Crew and Mr. Rogers Pageant. Brian enjoys the outdoors with hobbies like rock climbing, hiking, and white water rafting. Brian is attending University of Western Washington, and plans on attending the Marine Biology program. He hopes to become a Marine Biologist.
Scholarship Winner Spencer Dahl, is the grandson of Donna Bailey, class of 1951. Spencer graduated from Federal Way High School, Federal Way WA. Spencer has volunteered as a boys and girls club basketball coach. In school He was an Eagle Mentor, and a Cambridge history tutor. In sports Spencer was involved in Basketball, Baseball and also was Captain of the Golf team. Spencer was accepted into Oregon State University, and plans on being a High school teacher and coach.
Scholarship Winner Evan Ellefsen, is the son of Lile Kammerer, class of 1979. Evan graduated from Juanita High School, Kirkland WA. Evan has been volunteering at Evergreen Hospital for the last year, interacting with patients and staff. Evan has also been a member of the Kirkland Youth Council since 2009, and been a part of teen traffic court, planning committees, and a part of Kirkland Youth summit. At school Evan has had a Cabinet position in ASB for the past three years. He also reactivated DECA at Juanita high, helping it to state competitions. Evan is also involved in Spanish Club and NHS. Evan has been accepted at Gonzaga University and is planning to major in business with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and management.
Scholarship Winner Theodore Hartinger, is the grandson of David Bardue, class of 1947. Theodore has graduated from Roosevelt High School. Theodore has volunteered as a coach for North East Seattle little league. In sports He was a involved with football, lettered for three years, as well as being involved with basketball and baseball. Theodore has been accepted to University of Washington Seattle, and wants to become a teacher.
Scholarship Winner Austin Koons, is the grandson of Jim Koons, class of 1959. Austin graduated from CedarCrest High school in Duvall, WA. Austin has volunteered with his church as a Sunday school leader and with mission trips to Guatemala, and to Chewelah, WA. He has also been a student ambassador to Korea. In school Austin has been ASB President, member of Robotics club, President of Sports Medicine Club, President of NHS, as well as Interhigh president. In sports Austin has been on Varsity Football, Varsity Wrestling, and Varsity Track. Austin has been accepted into the University of Redlands, Redlands California. He plans to attend medical school and hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Scholarship Winner Rebecca LaDoe, is the Granddaughter of Janet Staab, class of 1958. Rebecca graduated from Oakridge High School, Conroe TX. Rebecca has volunteered with the National Charity League, and with Special Olympics. At school she participated in the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, as well as being on the Cross Country and Track Teams. Her hobbies include Photography, Running, Art, and Traveling. Rebecca is attending University of Texas-Austin with and plans to major in engineering or communications.
Scholarship Winner Vincent Lopes, grandson of Alayne Fairchild Devin, class of 1955. Vincent graduated from Woodinville High school, Woodinville, WA. Vincent has been volunteering in the classrooms at his High school, and was recognized for helping other students. At school he also participated in tennis, Future Business Leaders of America, and Model United Nations. His hobbies are computer animation and web design. At Eastern Washington University Vincent plans to major in computer science.
Scholarship Winner Sydney Morrill, is the granddaughter of Howard J. Morrill, class of 1947. Sydney graduated from Roosevelt High School, Seattle WA. Sydney has been volunteering with Ten Thousand Villages, and with Roosevelt High School Hoops camp. She also interns at Seattle Bioquest Academy. Her school sports are Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Lacrosse. She also was a member of Symphonic Band, Marching Band and the Thriller Club. She will be attending University of California Davis. Sydney is planning to major in Microbiology, with the focus of working towards her PhD in Biomedicine. She hopes to work in a laboratory studying infectious diseases.
Scholarship Winner Johnny Charles Mueller, is the grandson of Ruthe (Burmaster) Ridder, class of 1946. He graduated from Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, Vancouver WA. John volunteered at Lincoln Elementary, helping students, along with helping at his brothers school. He tutors his peers at his school in various topics. He will be attending Clark College. Johnny is planning on transferring from Clark College to a four year institution. He is interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
Scholarship Winner Sarah Newsom, granddaughter of JoAnn Faber, 1960. Sarah graduated from Glacier Peak High school, Snohomish WA. Sarah has volunteered with the Grizzly Club, a mentoring program. She was also involved in ASB Leadership and was ASB Secretary. She enjoys being a part of her youth group, bible study as well as Young Life and One Voice. Sarah enjoys time with her friends and family, listening to music and staying physically fit. Sarah is planning on taking the Nursing Program at Everett Community College to become a nurse.
Scholarship Winner Grace Noah, Grace Noah is the daughter of Barbara Noah, class of 1967. Grace graduated from Lakeside School, Seattle, WA. Grace has been a summer/ winter volunteer coach at Lakeside Middle School basketball camps. She has also volunteered at Food Lifeline and Dorothy Day House. Prior to her senior year she was a member of the Youth Advisory Board at Experience Music Project, as well as the Youth Band at EMP. Grace was co-captain of Varsity Basketball, and co-captain of the Ultimate Frisbee team. School clubs include Amnesty International, yearbook and radio. Grace plans to study Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Washington-Seattle.
Scholarship Winner Megan Riley, is the daughter of Larry Brent Riley, 1978. Megan graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Mount Vernon, WA. Megan has volunteered as a boys basketball manager for the past three years. She also volunteers in a local food bank, and tutors students on campus. In school she has been track captain for three years, as well as been a part of the yearbook committee. She also volunteers in her science classroom as a science intern. Megan enjoys music, playing Violin, piano and guitar. She has been accepted at Boise State University. Sarah hopes to be a science teacher.
Scholarship Winner Megan Roach, is the daughter of Robert Wayne Roach, class of 1979. Megan graduated from Asotin High School, Asotin, WA. Megan has volunteered at her local dentist for "free kids day" for the past three years and she is also a 4H junior leader with the rabbit Club. At School, Megan was a member of the FFA, as well as Chapter President for FCCLA, and Club Secretary for NHS. In sport Megan played softball and was Captain of Cross Country. Megan is attending Washington State University. Megan plans to pursue a career in medicine, and wants to become and OB-GYN.
Scholarship Winner Christopher Bryce Schomburg, is the grandson of Stella Mary Mills, 1949. Christopher graduated from Roosevelt High School, Seattle WA. Christopher has volunteered many hours with the YMCA, boys and girls club, as well as the Seattle youth soccer association. At school he is a member of DECA, FCCLA, as well as being captain of the soccer team. His primary hobby is soccer, and trains daily. Christopher is attending , California Polytechnic University - San Luis Obispo and plans to get a sports management degree, with the hopes of being an athletic director.
Scholarship Winner Jacob A. Scott, is the grandson of Dolores A. Wyse Gibbons, class of 1956. Jacob graduated from Prosser High School, Prosser WA. Jacob tutors middle school students in math at the Extra Mile Student Center, he also helps manage digital media at his church. At school He is a part of the Academic Bowl team, NHS, and SWAT (Students with Aptitude for Technology.) In sports he played Baseball and Cross Country. Jacob has graduated from high school and has also received his Associates Degree through Running Start. He plans on entering the criminology program at Eastern Washington University and wants to have a career in law enforcement.
Scholarship Winner Blake Sechler, is the grandson of Frederick L. Nollan, 1947. Blake graduated from Ballard High School, Seattle WA. Blake has volunteered as a Camp Counselor in summer basketball camps. At school he played basketball for three years and football for four years, he was captain of the football team for the past two years. His other hobbies are cooking and woodworking. He is planning on entering the engineering program at Washington State University. He plans to work in the engineering feld.
Scholarship Winner Lindsay Smullin, daughter of Marella (Moon) Smullin , 1974. Lindsay graduated from Snohomish High School, Snohomish WA. Lindsay volunteers with Safe Ride and with Tree of Giving. She is active with the Pacific West Performing Arts Dance Company. At school she is on the Cheerleading team and Dance team. She is also a member of NHS, RAKE Club and the school French Club. She enjoys dance and cheerleading. At the University of Washington she wants to continue her dance training, but she is also interested in attending the medical program. Lindsay's future plans are to be involved in pediatrics.
Scholarship Winner Joel Robert Weltzien, is the grandson of Lorraine Boos Weltzien, class of 1940. Joel graduated from Beaverhead County High School, Dillon MT. Joel volunteers at his church, First Presbyterian of Dillon, which offers many community projects such as Habitat for Humanity, local food bank, and trips to help the homeless in Chicago and San Francisco. He was also President of First Pres High school youth group. At school he was involved in the school Symphonic Band and Pep Band, as well as a Men's chorus. He is attending the Davidson Honors College of University of Montana. Joel wants to study a new science of psycho musicology, or the scientific study on how music affects the brain.
Scholarship Winner Rebecca Wilson, is the granddaughter of Douglas Beach, class of 1950. She graduated from Squalicum High school, in Bellingham WA. Rebecca has volunteered in the Sunday school program at her church, and tutored kids at Flying Colors after care program. She has also spent many hours as a volunteer camp counselor at Royal Family Kids Camp. At School she was a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Senior Class Vice President, and Freshman mentor. In sports she was Captain of Varsity Tennis. Rebecca is attending University of Washington and plans to get a Psychology degree. Rebecca wants to become a marriage and family therapist.
Scholarship Winner Kristin Winkel, is the granddaughter of Sally Wood, class of 1954. Kristen graduated from Eastlake High school in Sammamish, WA. Kristen volunteers with the basketball group at the local Special Olympics, with Girl Scouts girl fest, and has volunteered at the Breast Cancer 3 days For The Cure. Kristen is a member of National Honor Society, was vice president of Students Supporting American Armed Forces club, and was Captain of the Cheerleading team. Kristen is attending University of Washington Seattle, and wants to study biology with a focus on veterinary medicine. Kristin hopes to work with large animals, and promote animal welfare in third world countries.
Scholarship Winner Demetros "Deme" Xenos is the daughter of Spiro Xenos, Class of 1982. Deme Graduated from Ballard High School, Seattle, WA. Deme has volunteered in many different venues at her church Assumption Greek Orthodox. She helped revive the Seattle Chapter of Maids of Athena. She also tutored students at a local elementary school Deme also helps as a Camp Counselor at Camp Agape, which provides support to children with cancer and their families. In school Deme has been a member of NHS, President of DECA, ASB, Links Crew, and First President for Debate Club. In sports She has been a member of the swim team. Deme is attending University of Washington and has been accepted into the Foster School of business. She plans on double majoring in Business and Psychology, and wants to be an international attorney.
Scholarship Winner Casey Young, is the daughter of Keith Young, class of 1974. Casey graduated from Nathan Hale High School, Seattle WA. Casey has volunteered with a 4th grade horse camp for the past six years, moving up to Lead Counselor. She has created a nutrition club for students at John Rogers elementary, and also tutors ute with Seattle Music Partners. While in high school Casey was active with soccer. Casey has been accepted at University of Washington Seattle, and wants to double major in Business and mathematics.
